Light Mimic

Characteristics: Long, dark and thin entities that possess a tapered diamond-shaped head and glowing eyes. Along their bodies are glowing frills that can come in a single, bright color or a multitude of colors. When camouflaged, they cannot be differentiated from inanimate Christmas lights.

Description: Light mimics reside exclusively in Winter and upon the small houses that can be found there. From a distance, it is hard to pinpoint a Light Mimic’s location due to their remarkable camouflage. But they drop this disguise when they are disturbed by human activity such as a researcher drawing close to the house it resides on.

When approached they update a defensive position, flaring their frills and making a distinctive sound not dissimilar to jingling bells. If a human does not heed this warning and continues approaching the house, the Light Mimic will use their head to throw them at least eight meters away from the house. They will not drop this defensive position until the human is an adequate distance away.

Similar behavior has been demonstrated on entities that come near their house. The Light Mimic is able to detect humans through camouflage, stealth or a lack of light, and reacts similarly to drones.

The Light Mimic is thus far the only entity that can be considered ‘hostile,’ albeit with several caveats that make ‘defensive’ a more apt term for its behavior. The reason for its behavior towards other organisms is unknown.

The one known exception to its defensiveness are the entities Fog Walkers, which it will watch as they pass over it or nearby.
